If you’re going to a London singles event and are worried that you’ll struggle to make conversation (hey, there’s nothing wrong with being a bit shy), just bear this checklist of conversation starters in mind and you’ll be chatting merrily away before you know it.
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
There’s no two ways about it, going on first dates can be scary but you can give yourself – or someone else – a serious confidence boost if you get them talking about something big and bold they’ve done in the past. Plus, if it’s that exciting, they’ll be happy to talk about it for ages and you’ll find the conversation flows very naturally from that point on.
What film or book do you know like the back of your hand?
First dates are all about finding shared interests, which will help propel the conversation on. You’ll be chatting as if you’ve known each other for years in no time at all. This question will help show you whether you and your date have anything in common, which you may be able to base a relationship on.
If you had the day off work tomorrow, what would you do?
You’ll learn a lot about your date if you ask them this question – as well as seeing how creative they can be and whether they’re able to think on their feet. It’s not a normal date question, after all. By asking them this, you’ll also find out how they like to spend their time when they’re not at work and see if it matches up with how you like to chill out.
