Top Dating Mistakes To Avoid in 2016

If you’ve made it your New Year’s resolution to find love in 2016, you’ll want to make sure you avoid every dating pitfall. That’s why our tips on what mistakes to steer clear of will come in handy when you’re attending London’s dating events this year.

Keeping hold of the past

The chances are you’ve been hurt in love before, whether you’re coming out of a divorce or you have a history of being let down in relationships. But it’s important not to bring this baggage to your date. Whoever you’re meeting isn’t necessarily going to cheat on you or break your trust like your previous partner, so don’t come off defensive from the get go. It can be hard to open yourself up to a new relationship, particularly as you’re making yourself vulnerable again, but this is the only way you’ll really be able to fall in love, so give it a go!

Rushing into things

On the other hand, you don’t want to rush into things. The best way to really discover a new person is to take it slow. Go on a few dates before getting emotionally invested in someone and enjoy the beginning period of flirtation. If you have children already, don’t introduce them to a new partner until you’re both serious, and be realistic about how fast things are going. The last thing you want to do is scare off someone great because you’re coming on too strong.

Playing mind games

It can be easy for flirtation to turn into playing hard to get, and then simply become mind games, but try not to get involved in this. You’re both adults, so be honest and don’t worry excessively about how long to wait before sending a text, what your friends think and where to go on the next date. At the end of the day, if you’re both interested in each other, it will all come naturally, so you don’t have to play games to win each other round.
